Volunteer with us

Retreats run on volunteers. So does everything else.

Where people help

01

On retreats

Guiding, rowing, driving, cooking, running the shore, greeting people as they arrive. If you can fish, we'll use that. If you can't, we'll still use you — a lot of the job is being a steady presence for someone who's
nervous.

02

At shows and festivals

We run a table at fly fishing and outdoor events. It's talking to people about what we do, and it's how a good number of our participants first hear about us.

03

Behind the scenes

Fundraising, events, marketing, social media, photography, grant writing. Skills-based help, on your own schedule, from anywhere.

What you're signing up for

Time

A day retreat runs 7:00 to 5:00 for volunteers — an hour on each end for setup and breakdown. A weekend retreat is Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon.

Training

One mandatory virtual meeting before the retreat. We run two at different times so everyone can make one.

What we look for

An experienced fly angler who is comfortable in moving water, can teach basic skills and catch-and-release practice, and can talk about recovery with participants. Professional guide certification is not required. An application and waiver on file, and that's it.

On the day

You're off the water during instruction, fellowship and lunch. The rod stays in the participant's hands — demonstrate, don't take over. Barbless hooks. Bring or share a wading staff, a catch-and-release net, local flies for the season, spare polarized sunglasses and a folding chair.

What we ask of everyone

This is a recovery space and volunteers hold it. No substances at a retreat, at all. Tobacco and vaping can be a trigger too, so please restrict use. No solicitation or self-promotion, and no pets except service animals. BCC on group email, and no participant information on personal devices. Harassment means immediate dismissal.

Want to bring a retreat to your water?

Hosts start as volunteers, so this form is the first step either way — but there is a separate path, and a person to talk it through with.
